В этом году состоялся 17–й выпуск иешивы для девочек Bais Yaakov Machon Yehudis.

Bais Yaakov Machon Yehudis, the oldest girl's yeshiva high school serving the Bukharian community, celebrated the graduation of its seventeenth graduating class this past Thursday.

It was a beautiful graduation, with over 300 people in attendance. Speeches were made mostly by the students. A special speech was made to all the parents by Esther Daniel and Leah Yahuda on behalf of the class. They thanked the parents for the sacrifices they made in immigrating to America to provide a better life for their children, and especially thanking them for the opportunity to have learned in a yeshiva high school. «In Machon», they explained, «we not only received a superior general education and all of us are going to excellent colleges, but we also learned in a sophisticated level, the depth, truth and beauty of Judaism.»

There were two valedictorians this year, Kseniya Arabov and Miriam Koyenov. They spoke about what it really means to be Bukharian. They said it couldn't be «plough» and «basch» because really those are Uzbek foods. They told over stories of their grandparents and great–grandparents, how they secretly kept kosher and other mitzvoth even after Stalin prohibited it. They said they learned in Machon that being Bukharian meant following in the ways of your grandparents and great–grandparents, which means keeping Torah.

Mr. Michael Aharonoff spoke about how much Rabbi Young, the head of the school has sacrificed to build such a quality school and how everyone in the community must help Rabbi Young. On behalf of all the parents, he thanked Rabbi Young for all his hard work.

For more than 18 years, Bais Yaakov Machon Yehudis has been educating the girls of our community, providing both a superior general education and a sophisticated Jewish education as well. In the past 18 years Bais Yaakov Machon Yehudis has graduated hundreds of girls and established a name for itself as an excellent school. The graduates attend the finest colleges, including Queens College, St.Johns University, Hunter College, Long Island University, Touro College and many others. The graduates, besides being dedicated to building a true Jewish home, are also pharmacists, lawyers, accountants, physician assistants, speech therapists, nurses, and pursue many other fine careers.

Bais Yaakov Machon Yehudis is opening a seventh and eighth grade next year, to enable even more girls to receive the great education that Machon is famous for.
